2016-12 – Christmas and Biltmore

Brandi Cox Let’s see.

Kevin’s surgery was on the 6th. That was more nerve wracking for me than him, I think. lol!

I attempted to make struffoli and chiacchiere (Bowties and Rumballs that Great-Grandma Rose always made). The recipe is wrong so the bowties weren’t quite right. πŸ™ I’ll tweak it and try again in a few weeks. But, the rumballs were great! πŸ™‚

I put together a huge wall for my dream board. πŸ™‚

My son is ridiculous! I love it! (That’s a snuggie that looks like a tux. It’s the silliest thing I’ve seen in a long time. He’s had it for a while but he has started wearing it and tying it around himself so it really looks like he’s in a tux. lol)

Part of the joys of working at Lowe’s is that Kevin gets a huge discount a couple of times a year and it combines with some other sales during part of the year. We got a modular security/smart home system for less than half price! And, I think you all have met me…..my favorite part of the system is setting off the panic alarm at 9am on a Saturday and giggling hysterically while the kiddos groan with their “MOM! You’re crazy, we’re already up!” LOL! πŸ™‚ Munchie cheated and set one of the buttons on his key fob to disarm the panic alarm. I was mopey the rest of the day. lol

We got new holsters for our guns at the gun show! πŸ™‚ Yes, I’m weird. All of the best people are! πŸ™‚ The guy gave us a deal since the one he sold me last time was putting a hole in my hip. So, now I have it in the small of my back. blarg. The exact spot I never wanted to carry a gun. I have repeated thoughts of my brother every day now. I miss him terribly. One of the years he’ll come back from Baghdad so I can stop worrying. It’d be awesome if he’d reply to a phone call, email, text, or voicemail. grrrrrrrrr.

We have a vehicle down. It’s tragic. This vehicle cannot manage to make it up a slight incline in the snow. The Barbie Jeep will need…..snow tires. Bwahahahahahahaha! We are thinking thoughts. lol

Um. I cracked my phone screen. This is nicht gut. πŸ™ That’s what I get for reading farming books at 2am (what ELSE am I gonna do since I can’t sleep like a normal person???) Blarg. But, I guess getting some farm planning done kinda, sorta compensates.

I went back to get my braces checked and he wired me shut AGAIN. Ugh. Another migraine. I’m so sick of being sick all of the time! πŸ™ So, I’m down for another week. πŸ™

One night while I was moaning in agony I found a new show on Amazon and watched it. (I ended up having to watch it again when I wasn’t so drug-addled in the brain.) It’s called Ground Operations: Battlefields to Farmfields! THAT’S IT! THAT’S WHAT I’M DOING! It’s so awesome! Great minds and all of that! I showed Kevin how this group is doing exactly what he and I have been planning for the past couple of years. Our non-profit corp will tie in with their mission so nicely. I think I may reach out to see if there’s a piece they are doing that I’m missing from our documents that I’m filing. πŸ™‚

I’ve decided to rename “anxiety” and “depression” both to “cancer…of the soul”. Maybe then people will understand and stop the stigma. Lol. πŸ™‚ They eat away at the soul until there’s nothing left. Frequently fatal without medical assistance. I’m sure there’s more but I’m exhausted. That is my genius public service announcement for that evening.

Reason number 67 for having children is so you can put your freezing cold toes under them while they play video games on the living room tv while you read on the couch under a soft fuzzy blanket. πŸ™‚ or wait, maybe that’s just my house. Lol.

I saw something that said knitting helps PTSD vets. So, I’m knitting. I used to knit as a kid so I got a book to refresh myself, and a ton of yarn and needles, etc. We’ll see.

Oh I have planned big plans for the day. Imagine my surprise that I woke up with yet another excruciating migraine. There’s no way I can get any of it done with me shambling like a “walker” clutching a puke bucket. :'( It’s not fair! I just finished the NASTY migraine that the orthodontist gave me. :'( Why can’t I have more than a couple of pain free days a month? :'( Heck, I’ll take “pain-lite” days! πŸ™

Don’t get me wrong. I love farming and spending more time with the kids and my husband. But, I desperately want to stop being sick so that I can go back to work and be fully productive again. I hate this. I try not to whine about it but it’s Christmas and I’m so tired of ruining holidays, etc. because I’m down for the count. All I can do is take double-triple-quadruple the meds so that I can moderately function and give my family the holiday they deserve and then deal with the consequences of the meds later.
Anyway, back to the un-depressing.

Both trees decorated. Snacks with our Charlie Brown Christmas movie! Bug’s bedtime story was ‘Twas the night before Christmas…obviously. Bug watched Santa on the NORAD and Google Santa trackers. We silly grown ups were repeatedly told that Santa isn’t real and that WE are Santa and we’re already here, not flying over Greenland! Everything is wrapped, stuffed, bagged, candied, hung, etc. Only two prezies are hidden until morning due to size and wrapping limitations. Lol. Bug got a big girl bike and there’s the thing for Munchie who is probably still awake on his phone so I can’t say what Santa got him. Lol. Both Santas are ready for beddie bye! We’re beat! πŸ™‚ Merry Christmas to all and to all a good night!

Random sampling of Christmas pics:

This is NOT fair. Christmas Day. Hi of 67. I either want snow or I want to farm. This in between stuff is for the birds!

12/28 is my sister-in-law’s wedding at Biltmore. My beloved looks great in his tux. πŸ™‚ She vetoed the dungeons and dragons bowtie though. lol. Everything was beautiful! After it was over walked around Biltmore and spent a ton of time in the conservatory! πŸ™‚ I want to go back when it’s not winter.

We decided to try this Once a Month Cooking thing. It’s amazing! We bought all of our food for a month, and spent 3 days cooking it (I couldn’t handle everything in one day). We ended the year with a freezer full of 36 breakfasts, 48 lunches, and 32 dinners. Maybe this way we won’t have to eat out when I’m sick. Any of us should be able to pop one of these into the crock pot or oven and handle it without an issue. I hope so! πŸ™‚ We’ll see how it goes!

New Year’s Eve snacks with Dick Clark’s countdown!
